Compassion is the habit of expressing empathy, care, and concern for others. It’s one of the most quintessential components to living a peaceful and harmonious life, and it brings immediate and long-term happiness when practiced.
Compassion Takes Practice
When there is a desire to develop compassion in your life, the key is to make it a daily practice. Start each day with meditation or deep thinking. When interacting with people practice compassion. When preparing for sleep, reflect on compassion. By incorporating this practice into our daily lives, it becomes a part of us.
Compassion also carries positive physical benefits. Practicing compassion has shown to increase DHEA by 100%. DHEA is an anti-aging hormone, and it’s been shown that when we practice compassion it can reduces cortisol, a stress hormone, by up to 23%.
Being compassionate feeds our spiritual and emotional well being as people. It allows us to be happier, and when we’re happy we can share that happiness with those around us. We can also help those around us who might be less fortunate or down on their luck. Most of us desire peace and happiness, and we want to share that with others. Practicing compassion daily helps us achieve both of those goals.
